How to Study for the CIA Challenge Exam in 6 Weeks

Six weeks is enough to prepare well if you plan it properly, you already have a professional background, and you study consistently. The key is to follow the syllabus, put your time where the marks are, and practise as much as you read.

A six-week framework

Week  Focus  Notes
1  Read the full syllabus and study Section A (20%)  Read the full syllabus and review professionalism, independence, and quality.
2  Section B (15%) and the start of Section C  Cover internal audit operations and begin engagement planning.
3  Finish Section C (20%)  Focus on engagement planning, risk and controls.
4  Section D (25%)  The largest section, focus on evidence, analysis and findings.
5  Section E (20%) and joining the dots  Study reporting, action plans, follow-up and escalation
6  Practice and revision  Weak areas, time management, logistics

Adjust this plan to fit your schedule. If you work full time or have other commitments, spread the plan over a longer period rather than trying to fit in too much study at once.

Four habits that make it work

  • Practise every week. Try questions after each section and review the wrong answers. Do not leave all your practice until the final week.
  • Connect the sections. A finding in Section D leads to an action plan in Section E. Seeing the relationship makes scenarios easier to understand and analyze.
  • Protect your rest. A tired brain reads questions badly. Take regular breaks and get enough sleep, especially as exam day approaches.

The next step

Our 6-Week Blended Programme follows this rhythm, with six live online classes, one each week, plus on-demand lessons and practice questions. If you prefer to go at your own pace, Self-Study Access gives you the lessons on our learning platform.
